March 8 is International Women’s Day

The history of the women’s movement began in 1857 with a protest against the 12-hour women’s day in New York. In 1910, the German socialist woman Klara Setkin managed to mark March 8 as World Women’s Day. In 1977, the UN declared this day as Women’s Day. Women’s Day is also widely celebrated in Azerbaijan. Even after Azerbaijan gained independence, March 8 – International Women’s Day – is a non-working day in the country. Today, the successful activity of Azerbaijani women in all spheres of our lives, whether in politics, economics or culture, is a confirmation of the great power of the fairer sex. Women take an active part in science and contribute to the structures in which they work. Today, as heads of institutes and large research groups, women scientists can be found in many places around the world, women inventors, women engineers, women who have signed various “firsts” are rapidly changing our lives. Today, the state women’s policy in our republic, the traditions founded by the great leader Heydar Aliyev in this direction are worthily continued by President Ilham Aliyev. President Ilham Aliyev pays close attention to the role and place of women in society, their representation in public administration and promotion. Consistent measures are being taken in our country to strengthen gender policy and increase the role of women in society. On the occasion of this significant day, the chairman of the Trade Union of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS, Associate Professor Irada Mirzazadeh congratulated the employees and wished them new success in the public life of the republic, including their activities at ANAS. Then the ladies were presented gifts.
