On September 3, 2025, the opening ceremony of the 12th International Scientific Conference on “Modern Problems of Mathematics and Mechanics” was held, organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Institute of Information Technology, V.I. Romanovsky Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, and Yıldız Technical University of the Republic of Türkiye.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Misir Mardanov, Corresponding Member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Director General of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics. In his welcome speech, he highlighted the scientific importance of the conference, expressed gratitude to the co-organizers, and wished the participants success.
In his keynote address, Prof. Mardanov emphasized the crucial role of mathematics and mechanics at the intersection of fundamental and applied sciences. He noted that international conferences of this kind are vital platforms for strengthening scientific collaboration and encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences:
“Science knows no boundaries, and such international forums serve as catalysts for new scientific dialogue and approaches,” – he said.
He also reviewed the historical development and current stage of mathematical science in Azerbaijan.
Vice-president of ANAS, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, addressed the audience on behalf of Academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of ANAS. He stressed the growing importance of mathematics not only as a fundamental science but also as a methodological foundation for fields such as artificial intelligence, information technologies, engineering, and economics.
From Kazakhstan, Academician Maksad Kalimoldayev of the National Academy of Sciences delivered a speech, sharing his views on the current challenges in mathematical science, the importance of scientific innovation, and Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan cooperation in education and science. He emphasized the historical and cultural ties between the two countries and highlighted the significance of joint scientific projects and active participation of young researchers in international forums.
The event continued with plenary sessions and thematic panels.
It is worth noting that the three-day conference brings together renowned scholars from over 10 countries, and will include scientific seminars and panel discussions for young researchers.
