The weekly Wednesday seminar on March 14, 2018, 10.00 a.m., will present a report of the head of the Department of “Function Theory” Vugar Elman oglu Ismailov. Topic: “Kolmogorov’s superposition theorem and its approximative version”.

The report addresses the history of Hilbert’s 13-th problem, its solution by V.I. Arnold and A.N. Kolmogorov, several strengthening variants and generalizations of the Kolmogorov superposition theorem. In the talk, the problem of representation of discontinuous functions by linear superpositions will also be discussed. At the end an approximative version of the Kolmogorov superposition theorem, its role in the neural network theory and some open questions will be analyzed.
