Misir Mardanov gave a lecture to students of Azerbaijan University dedicated to Azerbaijan Democratic Republic
On October 4, Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Misir Mardanov was guest of Azerbaijan University. Professor delivered a lecture devoted to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
In the beginning of his speech, Mardanov congratulated the professor-teaching staff of the Azerbaijan University on the International Teacher’s Day on October 5 and emphasized the great role of teachers in the development of the society.
The lecture covered the socio-political situation and education reforms in Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus during the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. It was noted that the founders of the republic paid special attention to the issues of the full renewal of the education field, education of the people and the training of national cadres. The proclamation of the Azerbaijani language as a state language has been the first and most important measure of nationalization of schools.
The professor delivered a report on the reforms during the 23-month period in the management and content of the education system, the preparation of textbooks, sending 100 young people out of the country to study abroad, establishing the first university in the country – the establishment of Baku State University, expanding the network of primary education institutions, and gave information about the transformation of the Gori seminary to Gazakh and such reforms and innovations, and presented interesting facts and statistical figures to the participants.
A special place has been devoted to Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev’s education and philanthropic activity.
Finally, Misir Mardanov presented the books with his authorship and project manager, “Azerbaijan Education in the People’s Republic” (1918-1920), “Azerbaijanis Studying in Higher Education institutions until 1920” (Encyclopedic Study), “Schoolchild’s Expository Dictionary”, “Essays on Azerbaijan Education History and our first higher education Azerbaijanians” and Vidadi Khalilov’s “The Peak’s road”.
